Here it be, I think I might just be the coolest kid at school if I had one of these (yes I’m seriously considering buying it, messaged the guy and am going to check it out tomorrow). Looks super clean, according to the seller it only needs paint on top (typical Honda clear coat fade). We'll see.

I can’t help with your question but I grew up in the back of one of those and I absolutely adore them

Best friends mom had one. It was a champ and wouldn’t die even with like 300,000 miles on it

I give that a Nice Price if it goes, turns and stops as well as it looks.

Ewww four cylinder minivan

Better than the garbage J series POS’s that came after it and ate those 4 speed auto transmissions that couldn’t handle the torque and shit from the V6 but we're somehow still reliable with the weaker 4 cylinders. Besides I still have the Accord so I'd rotate between the two while my dad uses them too to keep miles off the CR-V. (Warranty woes)

My parents had one from 1997-2007 absolutely problem free

Heck yes, $1750 for a functioning clean and apparently well maintained vehicle. If money matters, this droid is for you.... You mean it doesn’t stink or smoke?
As for reliability, I assume that the engine and transmission is the same as te ‘94 Accord. My brother had one he owned from new without issue until his son wrecked it 2 years ago. Must have had over 200,000 miles.,

You need to get Isuzu Badging for it.

If you don’t need it and don’t plan on flipping it, I’d pass. Maintaining two cars can be a pain in the ass.

As long as you get a bumper sticker that says “ If this van is a rockin’ , don’t come a knockin’ ”

I mean, I go to a technician school with a garage and tools and I love working on my car, so it would be rather easy especially on these Hondas. My dad would be helping with cost as well because he wants to use another car to keep miles off the CR-V as it's approaching its warranty mileage deadline with still 3 years to go. I wouldn't mind it and down the line I could always sell the Odyssey or even the Accord so I'm not too worried about that.

Fuck bumper stickers cuz paint ruin but I'd gladly get that on my window

man that looks clean - tempting... That’d be a great deal if there isn’t something wrong with it.

Did those...not have sliding doors? Wicked. I’d buy it just because of the weirdness.

Seems like a good buy to me.

They did not. Yet another thing that I think is weird and cool about this along with it being the only gen with a 4 cylinder. I love it.

If you take it for a test drive, get it up to highway speeds. I thought it was the first (and second) generation Odysseys that had transmission issues - something about lubrication on the 3rd gear that didn’t happen at higher speeds. At least I thought that was the case.

That’s only true of the V6/auto Hondas of the late ‘90s-’00s. The automatic couldn’t handle the torque and power from the bigger engine but could take it easily from the 4 banger in this 1st Gen Odyssey.

They are awesome :o)
Too bad Honda doesn’
t make them like this anymore! Oh yeah, the original Ody was one of the coolest cars ever, one of the best Hondas for sure.

Timing belt immediately if it hasn’t been done yet. That blew up my mom’s first Odyssey.

I know a guy who FINALLY got rid of his at 300k miles so there’s that.

Even as a kid I found the third row cramped and not suitable for actual humans. So I wouldn’t count on hauling people back there unless they don’t mind a tight fit (I’ve been an A ccord sedan with nine people, so I’m aware such situations can happen).
![]() 01/28/2020 at 00:18 |

Yep, that and the Mazda MPV didn’t have sliding doors (the MPV only had 3 though!)

Oh no, it’s not “only true” of the V6s.
My uncle owned 3 of these first gens, every single one was scrapped around 100-120k because the trans was toast.

Excuse me?

He did the timing belt and alternator recently

Seems your luck is backwards, everyone and their mom says these are reliable and that Chrysler Vans are shit but you are on the opposite end of that spectrum. Interesting
![]() 01/28/2020 at 08:46 |

Then grab it!
![]() 01/28/2020 at 09:59 |

Hondas and Toyotas have always been shit for us. Many haven’t been able to make 30k miles before needing an engine or a trans ( or both in a few cases ).

To this date the slowest car I’ve ever driven was a Previa, and I owned a Geo Metro!
